The UCSF Women's Global Health Imperative held its 4th annual
International Women's Day Briefing on March 8, 2004. The
notable speeches of Dr. Nafis Sadik (the United Nations Special
Envoy to AIDS in Asia), Dr. Speciosa Wandira Kazibwe (the former
Vice-President of Uganda), and Dr. Suneeta Krishnan (WGHI's director
of programs in India) highlighted this years theme, Women,
Poverty and HIV. On behalf of WGHI, Dr. David Kessler, Dean of
the UCSF School of Medicine, presented the Auxillia Chimosoro
award for outstanding leadership in Women's Health to Alfred T.
Mays, representing the Johnson & Johnson Corporate Contributions
Program. During the reception, audience members gathered around the
photo exhibit, Dispatches from the Field, a compilation of
photographs taken by young women in San Francisco as part of the
Mission Youth Health Study. Thanks to all who participated in making
this event a success and supporting the ongoing work of WGHI!
