Socio-Economic Interventions For Girls

The goal of our Socio-Economic Interventions program is to
increase girls' control over sexual interactions and to prevent HIV,
STIs, and unintended pregnancies.
Objective: To develop socio-economic interventions that
combine:
-
A livelihoods strategy
to promote economic power through programs such as micro-credit,
vocational training and placement, and linkages to sustainable and
non-traditional market opportunities.
-
A sexual and reproductive
health strategy to increase access to clinical, counseling, and
testing services and to provide knowledge through a life skills
curriculum that emphasizes self-esteem, negotiation, and
decision-making.
-
A social change
strategy to stimulate community dialogue regarding social norms
that reinforce gender inequalities.
-
A policy, advocacy,
and dissemination strategy to promote these interventions with
CBOs, NGOs, government agencies and academic institutions.
